Time Flies

I have been trying for days to get time to update on all of the things going on. I hope I can remember them all! Both boys are just doing new things right and left. It is great!

Let's start with Henry. Just over a week ago, on 7/3, he started rolling over consistently from his belly to his back! We are actually trying to get in more tummy time to strengthen his neck muscles, but he keeps rolling over. On the same day, he also started to notice his hands a little bit. He weighs 11 lbs 7 oz now and is fully into 0-3 month clothes. He is all smiles too--he absolutely LOVES to have little 'conversations' with you where he stares right into your eyes, smiles these big goofy grins, and makes noises back and forth. We feel like he is finally connecting with us. His fussiness has subsided quite a bit, and he is sleeping pretty well most nights. He will go anywhere from 4 to 7 hours and usually goes right back to sleep if he does get up for a feeding. This part is much better than Charlie was! He is also kind of batting at toys now when he plays on his mat.

Here are some pics of both boys. You will see that several of them show the beginnings of how Charlie "loves" on his brother (and in many cases, causes some tears). He has shown a little more jealousy lately, but he is still very sweet to Henry most of the time. Mostly he wants to climb on us whenever we are holding the baby. Henry is just now starting to notice Charlie and he always smiles at him.

Charlie is becoming more and more BOY every day. He is learning new words, letters, and numbers at an amazing rate. And he's learning things very randomly. For example, the letters he recognizes are "b", "h", and sometimes "a" and "w". He knows the numbers 2 and 8 and sometimes 3. He knows what 1 is but he never says it for some reason. He can identify purple, yellow, blue, and green consistently, and sometimes red and black. (no orange yet, maybe he can sense our dislike for the Texas Longhorns, who knows). He is changing in subtle ways too, like he will now sit and watch an entire TV show of his favorites (The Wiggles, Yo Gabba Gabba, Elmo) and he will follow directions like sit here, pick that up, put that back, etc. He will seek out books and point out things he recognizes. And he makes associations we would never think of, like how 8 and B look alike. He just turned 20 months, and he weighs 28 lbs 6 oz. He has stayed pretty steady for a few weeks.
We are so pleased with his progress at gymnastics! We have really seen a difference in what he can do. Last night we went to open play at the gym and he finally figured out how to hang on the monkey bars...yea Charlie! Now he wants to do it all the time. He is also much better at jumping on the trampoline. But of course, what he loves most of all is just to take off running so we have to catch him before he interferes with others!

We had a great 4th of July. We spent time at Ray's house, where Gage was giving him a "hat", and we also went to my mom's and did some tame fireworks. Honestly he was more excited about the bubbles than he was watching the fountains. Oh well, maybe next year!

Today was Charlie's first class at Swim Ranch. We had a great time! He is doing pretty good for his age. The time is right when he's getting ready for a nap, so he was a little tired and fussy, but he did a lot of kicking, floated on his back, and hung onto the side. Today Gage and Sam were both in his class so he enjoyed spending time with them too (they are all three in one of the pics).
